Sahara India Pariwar has contributed a sum of Rs 10 lakhs to Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association towards establishment of a Research and Development Centre for Polo in the State.
The financial aid which was given in the form of a cheque was handed by two officers of Sahara India Pariwar namely Vishal Tyagi and Md Rashid Khan to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during a simple function held at the latter�s office chamber.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh again handed over the cheque to the president of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association S Budhachandra Singh.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that said the game of Polo and Manipuri Pony are the heritage and pride of the Manipuri people.
Manipur gifted the game of Polo to the World and the little Manipuri Pony is the original Polo Pony.
Inspite of various claims and counter claims, now it is accepted among the Polo chroniclers that the saga of modern Polo originated from Manipur, he added.
He hoped that the philanthropy and generosity of Sahara India Pariwar of would motivate the younger generation to take up the game of Polo seriously and start keeping Manipuri Pony.
With the contribution from Sahara India Pariwar, Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association would be able to start research on Manipuri Pony as well as on Manipuri Polo and developed the game and make it known to the world, the Chief Minister added.
