Imphal, September 06, 2010:
Reacting to the statement of KCP (MC) urging some civil society organisations not to make one-sided judgment or add communal colour to Mapao Khullen incident, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has clarified that the organisation has never tried to defame the outfit and add communal colour to the incident.
A UCM press release said that the body conducted a spot visit to the village with media persons in the aftermath of the incident in which UCM members interacted with villagers, village headman and Pastor.
As per statement given by them, around 25 male villagers were beaten up by KCP (MC) cadres asking them to identify 'informers' on August 31 night.
The cadres also asked the villagers to leave the village within 4-5 days, the press release said.
It added that UCM in its earlier press release only condemned the incident in which many innocent villagers were beaten up by heavily armed cadres in a bid to identify a few culprits.
UCM added, KCP (MC) might aware of the the contributions made by UCM with regards to maintaining communal harmony and safeguarding territorial integrity.
Saying that it is unfortunate that KCP (MC) takes UCM as a body which spews communal venom, UCM urged the outfit to study UCM's earlier statement minutely.
UCM also urged the outfit to withdraw its quit notice served to the villagers.
