Imphal, July 30:
Pointing the finger of accusation at the Medical Officer of Laii PHC in Senapati, the villagers have gone on record and stated that the deaths of seven persons due to diarrhoea and viral fever could have been averted if the MO, Dr Loli had attended to his duties diligently.
Dr Biren Singh, State Epidemiologist who led the medical team to Laii village following reports of outbreak of diarrhoea, said that the villagers put up a strong complaint against the MO.
The villagers said that Dr Loli has been absent from office most of the time and the only time he appears is during PPI programme, stated Dr Biren.
At the moment only one ANM is manning the PHC.
I was told by the villagers that the seven persons could have been saved if the MO was present for duty, said Dr Biren and added that the villagers made a strong case to take up action against the MO for dereliction of duty.
Coming to the findings of the medical team, Dr Biren said that seven persons had died on different dates between June 26 and July 23 due to diarrhoea and viral fever and added that there is no case of any outbreak of diarrhoea as feared earlier.
The death cases are sporadic, asserted Dr Biren and appealed to all concerned to furnish confirmed reports to the State Health authorities.
The medical team comprising Dr Biren, Chief Medical Officer of Senapati Dr Bhubonchandra, two doctors from the ICMR and other experts collected water samples from Laii Sharaffi and stool samples from villagers of Laii village for examination, said Biren.
