Speaking at the occasion, DGP Y Joykumar while expressing gratitude to the Assam Rifles and the Army for the assistance towards restoration of civil administration in remote areas of the State, also assured that the State Government will be providing a way for the future of the surrendered UG cadres under the existing surrender policy.
In his address, Maj Gen CA Krishnan observed that it was one of the largest surrender ceremonies of recent times and said that such a large scale surrender by young people will prove to be a beacon for other misguided youth to lay down their arms, abjure violence and return to the mainstream.
However, talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the surrender ceremony, Soraisham Irabot of Kachikhul, Imphal East, who is the father of the alleged KYKL surrenderee identified as Soraisham Manithoi (35), clarified that his son has no connection with any UG group.
Irabot informed that his son had gone to Moreh on June 20 to buy umbrellas and other goods from Moreh but along the way he had been arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel posted at Tengnoupal on June 20. The father further informed that Manithoi is a married man with three children and he is working as a distributor of Amway business networking.
