Meritorious awards to the students and sportspersons of Mayang Imphal area in Imphal West district donated by entrepreneur K Manglem were distributed at a function held at Mayang Imphal Marriage Hall yesterday.
The award distribution function organised by the Academic Incentive Award Committee was graced by chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board, MLA E Dwijamani as chief guest and Chairman of MANITRON, MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar as the president.
Donor of the awards, K Manglem was the guest of honour.
Forty-six students who secured high marks in the HSLC and HSSLC exams conducted by state and Central Boards and Council and seven sportspersons were conferred the awards.
Speaking as chief guest, MLA E Dwijamani observed that instead of learning by rote, the students must study to know thoroughly the lesson.
Education is a must for marching the society in the right direction.
It is also a bounden duty of the parents, guardians, teachers and local elders to bring out ideal society for the future society.
Students must be encouraged, and giving awards to students with high marks in examinations is also a part of encouragement to the students, he said.
Tumultuous situations in the present society cause lack of proper education among the students.
Well educated people never go in the wrong way.
Those who lag in education could not think of betterment of the society, he observed.
Chairman of MANITRON, MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar said that in due course of time, major changes are coming up in the education system, and authorities concerned should also try their best to impart education to the children with the latest techniques of teaching.
K Manglem, donor of the awards, expressed the need of keeping special view towards producing good and ideal students.
It is a must for all to encourage students who secured top positions in the examinations.
During his childhood period, he could not go to school and study well.
Even though he wanted to play games, he could not fulfill his wishes.
Considering his early life experiences and with a view to encouraging the students and sportsperson, he donated the awards, Manglem added.
