A public meeting held today at Taothong Lamkhai under the aegis of the JAC constituted in connection with the murder of Lourembam Basanta has set December 22 as the deadline to implement all the points of agreement signed between the Chief Minister and the JAC.
According to the agreement reached between the JAC and the Chief Minister yesterday, the State Government should put its best efforts to nab the murderers and provide ex-gratia to the family of the deceased before the shrada ceremony as well as to the injured victim, said statement issued by the JAC.
In response to the assurance given by the Chief Minister, the public meeting held today decided to claim the corpse of Lourembam Basanta and to suspend the Uripok-Kangchup road blockade till December 22.Nevertheless, it resolved to launch various other forms of agitation until all the culprits are book and punished according to law.
In case the State Govt fails to fulfil its commitments by December 22, the JAC would launch intense forms of agitation from the next day in association with Meira Paibi groups and social organisations of the State.
To urge the State Govt to provide security for injured Lourembam Sanjit so that he does not fall prey to the murderers was another resolution adopted during the meeting.
Clarifying that the JAC did not undertake any malicious campaign to defame UNLF, it confessed that the enraged people used some strong words as the prime accused Thoudem Premchand identified himself as an UNLF cadre.
Yet it did convey deep regret had the actions of the JAC and the infuriated people offended UNLF.
To appeal to all concerned including the UG outfits to award commensurate punishment to Thoudem Premchand and his accomplices in public was another resolution adopted in today's meeting.
Further the JAC conveyed its gratitude to UNLF for its prompt clarification that the outfit was not involved in the murder case and Thoudem Premchand was not related to UNLF in any manner.
The meeting also resolved to appeal to all concerned to pull up the culprits who allegedly used the name of UNLF while killing Lourembam Basanta and injuring Lourembam Sanjit so that they are awarded fitting punishment in public at the earliest.
