The death of 28-yr old woman from Manipur in mysterious circumstances in Roop Nagar area of Delhi University complex early Saturday morning sparked protest with more than 100 people storming the Roop Nagar Police Station.
Lucy Cash had reportedly attended a party with one of her male friends, a property dealer, at Kamla Nagar on Friday night and was found dead in his car the next morning.
Lucy who worked in a beauty parlour at Kamla Nagar was staying at Vijay Nagar near Kingsway Camp.
Police have detained Ajay Luthra (38) in whose Maruti Zen she was found dead, but he was not arrested officially till late Saturday evening, thus prompting infuriated people numbering around 100 of them to storm the police station.
Roop Nagar police said that a case has been registered and it has been transferred to Maurice Nagar Police Station.
Rakesh Tyagi is the investigation officer of the case.
Maurice Nagar police said the responsible person has been now arrested and further interrogation is going on.
However, Rakesh Tyagi was not available for comment.
Police sources said that Luthra, a property dealer based in Malka Ganj, had called up Lucy on Friday evening and asked her to meet him near Amitabh Banquet in Kamla Nagar.
The met at around 8 pm and consumed alcohol.
Both were completely drunk when Luthra took her for a drive in the area.
On Saturday morning Luthra came to Hindu Rao Hospital with an unconscious Lucy.
He was accompanied by another friend Anand Thukral.
Lucy was declared brought dead in the hospital.
The police then detained Luthra.
Luthra reportedly told the police that the woman complained of headache while in the car and soon after became unconscious.
He further told the police that he took Lucy his house in Malka Ganj but she refused to get out of the car and he left her in the car and even provided her with a quilt.
The car was apparently locked from outside.
But in early in the morning of the following day, Luthra tried to wake her up but she did not respond.
The he called his neighbour Thukral and decided to take her to hospital.
Lucy lived with her brother in Vijay Nagar.
Her elder sister is married and lived with her husband in Roop Nagar.
Her relatives alleged that she had been raped inside the car by Luthra and her friends and then murdered.
Preliminary medical examination confirmed that she had consumed alcohol.
There was no injury mark on the body.
The police, however, have not ruled out the possibilities that she might have died of suffocation the car.
Luthra is married and lives with his wife and two children.
He claimed before the police that Lucy and he were friends for the last eight years.
Thukral has also been detained by the police in connection with the case.
