The State Government has decided to scrap the Bungte Chiru Commission of Inquiry instituted under retired Justice C Upendra with immediate effect (March 16).An order to this effect was issued by the Home Department yesterday.
The Inquiry Commission was instituted on December 16 last year to probe the circumstances leading to the death of LD Rengtuiwan in Assam Rifles firing during a search operation at Bungte Chiru village.
The late man's wife was also injured in the AR firing while some other civilians were assaulted.
The inquiry commission was instituted after a hue and cry was raised to denounce the death of LD Rengtuiwan who was allegedly shot dead in AR firing during a search operation at Bungte Chiru village on November 16 last year.
Even as the inquiry commission had started its probe, the Kom Rem Union had on February 18 this year submitted a written intimation to the Chief Minister to withdraw the inquiry commission in line with the MoU signed with the authority of 28 AR.
