Appealing to the Paites of Churachandpur to help in preventing armed Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) cadres from committing atrocities upon Meiteis residing in the district, United Committee Manipur (UCM) external affairs secretary Nganbi has today warned of large scale deaths and loss of properties on both sides if clashes erupt.
Interacting with media persons at Meetei Youth Organization (MYO) office today, Nganbi informed that ZRA is an organization which has very close links with the Indian Array and therefore the hands of the army cannot be ruled out in the attack on Meitei youths.
Strongly condemning the act of the ZRA cadres as barbaric and inhuman, Nganbi said that it is highly possible that the atrocities were committed by the ZRA cadres at the instigation of the Indian Govt to create tension among different communities as a part of its counter insurgency plan.
UCM asst secretary Anandi Khangembam who also spoke at the press conference urged the people of both sides to solve the problem peacefully and further appealed to women folks of both the parties to help in preventing any form of violence befoie reaching an amicable solution between the two parties.
Mention may be made hefe that armed ZRA cadres had thrashed some Meetei youths at Khumujamba Meetei Leikai at Churachandpur on the night of May 4 resulting in the hospitalization of six youths at dist hospital.
The six youths who were hospitalized at the dist Hospital have been identified as Khwairakpam Basanta (38), Moirangthem Ashakumar (35), Ningombam Ibungo (35), Angom Sura (45), Moirangthem Tiken (16), Urikhin-bam Tomba (51), Khangabam Chitra (38) and L Naba (52).
