On the efforts taken up to make up for the shortages of teachers in some of the high schools in the Constituency, Biren said that after a high school brought to his notice they have a shortage of four teachers, the matter was put up before the Directorate of Education.
Accordingly an order has been issued to post four teachers at the said school.
However the transfer order was stayed the next day as the Education Minister was not consulted.
"How can the transfer order be issued without consulting me, said the Education Minister", said MLA Biren quoting the Education Minister.
Stating that ills affecting the Education Department dates back to many years, Biren said that the present Education Minister may not be in the position to correct all the flaws.
Without going into specifics but pointing out some flaws, the MLA said that four Primary teachers were recently promoted to Graduate levels.
However as they are not qualified enough to take up the responsibility, they have not attended school.
There was a time when teachers were recruited at the fancy and whims of the people in positions of power, said the MLA and added that even conch blowers were appointed as teachers.
As such there is always the apprehension that upgrading high schools to higher secondary schools may not have a positive outcome, he added.
Stressing on the importance of education, the MLA said that getting a Government job or not is besides the point but in this age and time, education is a must for everyone.
