Imphal, June 26 2014:
Pointing out that the next Assembly election is just around two years and a half away, Chief Minister O Ibobi has called upon all the Congress leaders and legislators to work together and transform the party's election manifesto into action so as not to forfeit people's trust and faith.
Ibobi was speaking at a reception function organised by the All Block Congress Committee Presidents Manipur at Congress Bhavan Annexe building today in honour of Lok Sabha MPs Dr Th Meinya, Thangso Baite and Rajya Sabha MP Haji Abdul Salam.
Cabinet Ministers, the Deputy Speaker, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and many party leaders were present at the gathering.
Even though the next 11th State Assembly election is two years and a half away, around one year would be spent on election campaigns.
What is left is just 18 months.
As such all the party MPs, Ministers and MLAs need to work vigorously so as to fulfil what the party promised to the people in its election manifesto, Ibobi exhorted.
It is crucial to inform the public about the various activities and development programmes being taken up by the Government and thus prove that the Congress party has been working to keep its own words.
Stating that the Government has been striving to bring equitable development in both the hills and valley, the Chief Minister pledged that his Government would continue with the ongoing efforts of bringing uniform development throughout the State.
There can be peace and mutual respect only when all the citizens are given equal share and opportunities.
The block presidents might have many expectations from the party and they might have even some grievances.
Making impressive statement/promises is much easier than transforming them into action.
Even the NDA Government at the Centre has set a second time frame of 100 days to execute a set of priority agenda after it failed to fulfil the same agenda within the first few weeks of coming to power.
Yet, the NDA Government's gutsy decision is commendable, Ibobi remarked.
Many Congress leaders have been questioning whether benefits of the many noble flagship programmes taken up during UPA Government did not reach larger section of the country's population.
BJP ruled States fully took advantage of these possible loopholes, Ibobi stated.
MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that a rest room would be provided for visiting district and block presidents at Congress Bhavan.
Efforts are also on to open a library section, he added.
Apart from already instructing all Ministers to pay audience to district and block presidents and party workers at least for two hours once in a week, a reminded has been sent, Gaikhangam informed the gathering.
The Chief Minister had also asked the Ministers to meet party workers on any convenient day once a month.
The three MPs too spoke at the function.
