Imphal, February 21:
Manipur University has appealed to all concerned not to exert any undue interference in its functioning to help it maintain a strict academic calendar.
Talking to media-persons today, Dean of Sciences of the University Prof Ch Amuba said maintenance of a strict academic calendar is important for improving the standard of education in the State.
The University has been making efforts in this direction for the last two years and it would be very unfortunate if anybody tries to interfere in the functioning of the University, he stated categorically.
Reacting to the recent allegation of All Manipur Joint College Students Union, Prof Amuba asserted that MU would not cow down under the pressure of anybody.
Setting the record straight, he said the time table for conducting the examination of BA Ist, 2nd and 3rd year in April and May was fixed as per the academic calendar.
It may be mentioned here that the Union has demanded rescheduling of the time table for the BA 3rd year so as to give a chance to those students who have not cleared their 1st and 2nd year to appear in the 3rd year final examination.
Clarifying on the stand of the University to stick to the examination schedule already fixed, Prof Amuba pointed out that as per the academic calendar which has been in force since 2004, the academic session of BA 1st and 2nd year commenced from 2nd week of June 2004 and the final examination has to be conducted and completed within the month of April this year This arrangement will facilitate post-graduate students who pass out from Manipur University to get admission for higher education in other Universities outside the State, if they are willing to do so, he said.
Stating that it would create problem in maintaining the academic calendar, if the examination for the BA students are not conducted before April, Prof Amuba observed that it would be rather ridiculous to allow students who could not clear their 2nd year examination to sit for the third year examination.
