Imphal, June 29:
With the authority earlier confirming that diarrhoea has already claimed some lives at Senapati district headquarters, the spread of the disease has reached Motbung and claimed another two lives.
Informing this, president of the Motbung Youth Club told The Sangai Express that two persons have succumbed to the disease, which has assumed the proportion of an epidemic.
The two who passed away yesterday and today morning have been named as SL Paoshe (70) and Sl Zamhoineng (12) daughter of SL Kamtinlun.
Paoshe passed away last night at about 7.30 while the girl child succumbed to her disease at the break of dawn today.
At the moment there are about 17 persons admitted at the Primary Health Centre of Motbung.
An official source confirmed the outbreak of the disease but added that the two victims died before they could be brought to the PHC.
Essential medical items such as IV fluids have run out of stock, said the source adding that when they approached Kangpokpi for the IV fluids they were referred to the Medical Directorate.
The IV fluids had run out of stock because they were given away earlier to Saikul, said the source.
The patients who have been admitted to Motbung PHC have all been confirmed as diarrhoeal cases, said the club president adding that one patient identified as Sonu Lhouvum has been shifted to the Catholic Medical Centre at Koirengei.
Efforts to contact the Senapati DC to get the Govt side of the story drew blank.
