In connection with the road expansion programme currently undertaken in the Greater Imphal areas, the State Govt has today constituted a high level committee to finalise on how much area is needed for expansion on both sides of the road.
According to an order issued by the PDA today, PDA Chairman K Ranjit and Chief Town Planner N Gitkumar have been appointed chairman and convenor of the committee respectively.
The other members of the committee include Commissioner Revenue, Secretary Law, DCs of Imphal East and West, Chief Engineer PWD, Chief Engineer PHED, Chief Engineer Power, Director Settlement, Secretary PDA, Chief Engineer PDA and Retd Senior architect L Mangi.
The committee members will first inspect all the roads lying in and around the Greater Imphal areas and then fix the necessary width required for the road expansion keeping in view the rising number of population and vehicles in the city.
The inaugural meeting of the committee members will be held at the office of the PDA chairman on Jan 12.The committee is likely to take up eviction drive in and around the city under the Town and Country Planning Act 1975 after issuing a gazette notification.
Notice issued on Uripok road condition: Manipur Human Rights Commission has today issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Chief Engineer PWD on a complaint petition filed in connection with the deplorable condition of the Uripok Road lying adjacent to the Bir Tikendrajit flyover.
While registering the matter as an MHRC case for inquiry under the relevant provision of the protection of Human Rights Act 1993, the rights panel asked the two officials to furnish their reports by January 24.This road stretch has become a nightmare for the commuters.
The petitioner Maisnam Jagajit is a legal practitioner.
The petition contended that dust from the untarred road is creating all sort of problem not only to the commuters but also to the vegetable vendors, shopkeepers and residents living on the roadside adjacent to the flyover.
The term health is squarely covered by the ambit of human rights and the Govt has a bounden duty to keep its citizens in a healthy atmosphere in all respects, the petition also said.
The petition prayed before the Commission to initiate an inquiry into the grievances laid down in the complaint and call report from the concerned authority on the matter.
It also prayed for issuing a direction to the authorities concerned to ensure a clean atmosphere in the area.
In another case, the rights panel has issued another notice to the Executive Engineer PWD, Division No I for his alleged refusal to endorse his signature on a loan application form of a driver of the same department.
This followed a complaint petition filed by the driver (grade III) namely T Shanti Singh of Thangmeiband.
The EE refused to put his signature on a personnel loan scheme of the petitioner and such refusal by a superior officer amounts to violation of his human rights, the petitioner said.
