Kohima Press Club members called on Governor

Imphal, August 16 2014: Nagaland Governor PB Acharya said he wanted to make the Kohima Raj Bhavan a "people's Bhavan" and further disclosed that common men were yet to see their Bhavan.

Informing this to the members of the Kohima Press Club (KPC) who called on him at his official residence here Saturday, the Governor said he would like to invite people from all walks of life including rickshaw pullers, cobblers, Bus and taxi drivers, etc.

on the occasion like "At Home Programs" at Raj Bhavan.

"I want to make them feel that this is their Bhavan," he pointed out adding that, "It will be an eye opener for all" .

The Governor also stated that he would be happy to know issues which were not attended to and urged the press and the general publics to bring such issues to his notice so that he would try his best to see that the issues were addressed to.

"Please come any time and share with me the issues if they are not addressed to," he told the KPC members.

Acharya also stressed the importance of learning the regional languages by the mainlanders for which he had been working hard to introduce northeast tribal languages to various major universities of India.

He further disclosed that he had already discussed with the Parliamentary Secretaries of School Education and Higher and Technical Education as to how they could detail language teachers to various major universities of India so that mainlanders would avail opportunities to learn them.

At that same time, teachers from Science and Maths streams from other major Universities of India should also be detailed to teach people in the region.

"This way we can develop people to people coordination, besides integrating of emotions between the people of the region and the mainlanders," he said adding, "I think a Governor can do a wonderful thing" .

Earlier, KPC President Xavier Rutsa, on behalf of the KPC, expressed his happiness on Acharya on becoming the Governor of Nagaland.

He expressed the hope that the Raj Bhavan and the Members of the KPC would have a very cordial atmosphere while discharging their respective duties in the State under his Governorship.

A Memorandum as to how the Raj Bhavan would streamline on the media in the State had also been submitted.

KPC Vice President Ketu, General Secretary Alice, Treasurer Routou, Vincent, Solomon, Adviser Kops and senior Member Oken Jeet Sandham were among others who accompanied the KPC President while calling on the Governor.

The Governor also assured that he would do his best to maintain cordial relations with the press persons in the State and asked them to come any time and share their problems with him.
