World Veterinary Day observed in State

The 12th World Veterinary Day was observed in the state by the Indian Veterinary Association, Manipur branch.
Commissioner of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, IAS L Lakher and Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry services, Dr Th Jeevan Singh graced the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
Retd Directors of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry services Dr S Joykumar Singh and Dr H Phonindro were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, L Lakher emphasised the importance of animals for survival of human beings.
He also mentioned the need of doctors to educate people on the critical matter of microbial resistance.
The number of posts sanctioned by the Government for the department is 163 of which 40 seats still remain vacant, he added, expressing the need to fill in this gap with assistance from the Government.
President, Dr Th Jeevan Singh opined that it is upto the veterinarians to decide how much they should and can contribute, further highlighting the necessity of ethics and sincerity in their work.
In order to bring the department on the right path, the advancement of Animal Husbandry is a must, cited Dr H Phonindro Singh.
Expressing concern over the dwindling number of poultry, pony farms and others in the state, he slammed the government for taking over these farm lands due to which activities of the department in these farms have been stalled.
He stressed on the need of the Goverment to step in and take charge of bringing these farms back to life.
As a part of the event, a technical session was also held wherein Dr Ng Ibotombi Singh, Principal Investigator DI Lab, spoke on "Antimicrobial ResistanceAn overview".
Department of Microbiology, RIMS, Professor and Head, Dr Ng Brajachand Singh presented a paper on the topic "Anti-microbial Resistance in the medical management of infectious diseases" .
