Imphal, December 06:
The State Cabinet has given its nod to upgradation of eight Primary Health Sub-centres to Primary Health Centre during its sitting last night.
The Cabinet, however, shied away from discussing the burning issue of announcing the upgradation of Jiribam to a full fledged revenue district.
The Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh also gave its approval to recruit over 100 staff nurses and ANM in the State Health Department.
Recommending proroguing of the Assembly session, the meeting also decided to stop levying Octroi taxes in Imphal Municipal areas and to abolish the check posts.
The meeting, however, could not arrive at any decision on pay anomaly and service extension of 135 employees on contract basis as well as of 11 vocational lecturers.
After a thorough discussion on the directives of the Planning Commission to transfer the unutilised and remaining fund from around 20 Government Departments which have not yet been able to utilise 50 percent of the allocated fund, the Cabinet meeting resolved on giving necessary instructions to the Departments concerned.
The Cabinet meeting which went on till late into the evening, however, did not discuss anything on the burning issue of upgradation of Jiribam into a full-fledged revenue district.
According to information received from a reliable source, the possibility of implementing the demands to upgrade both Sadar Hills and Jiribam to full-fledged revenue districts before the upcoming Assembly election is very remote.
Jiribam has been in turmoil for the past many days pursuing the status of a district.
