Shillong, December 06:
In a bizarre case unheard of in Meghalaya earlier, a father and his daughter were 'officially separated' before the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women.
The father and daughter were officially separated after matters came to light that they were maintaining a physical relationship after the death of the man's wife last year.
The official separation was based on the 'forgive and forget' policy.
They formally severed their illicit relations on December 4 by appending their signatures on the documents prepared for the separation.
The two from Mawiong Lumsyntiew, Nongstoin of West Khasi Hills district, were separated in front of all the familiy members concerned.
Attesting that such a bizarre situation took place, a source informed Newmai News Network that as soon as the understanding was formally endorsed by the family members on 'forgive and forget 'policy,' the father left for his relatives' place and the daugher was handed over to her brother.
According to the source, the taboo began after the death of the girl's mother on March 16 last year.
Their close proximity ignited the suspicion of the family members and on November 14 this year, the familiy members confirmed the relation and took the unprecedented decision to separate the father and daughter to avoid humiliation and embarrassment, disclosed the source.
However, after considering that this should go official, the already embarrassed family members approached the MSCW to be the official witness to the matter .
Both signed before the Chairperson of the MSCW, B Lyndem in front of the relatives, said the source.
