The 8th foundation day cum the 5th general conference of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) was observed at Eureka High School, Khongjom today.
Eight diligent teachers were also conferred the Maichou Khongnangthaba Award.
The foundation day cum general conference was attended by Principal Secretary and Director General of the State Academy of Training P Sarat Chandra as chief guest, DESAM president LC Santosh as president and Director of Centre for Myanmar Study, MU Prof W Nabachandra and Lecturer of YK College Wangjing Dr Soibam Birahari as guests of honour.

As in the previous years, DESAM felicitated eight diligent teachers with the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba award.
The award winning teachers include Aribam Devjit of Jirighat High School, Mutum Rajendra of Poirou Khongjil Jr High School, P Nimai of Progressive English School Lamdeng, Th Devchandra of Maria Montessori Sr Sec School, N Melei of Little Master English School Samurou, M Chourajit of Tentha Khunjao Primary School, M Iboton of Tharoijam Primary School and Ch Ibopishak of Gokul Jr high School.
Speaking at the occasion, Principal Secretary P Sarat Chandra emphasised the responsibilities of leaders of society.
Only when leaders tread on the right path, peace and progress can be achieved in a society, he said.
In addition to abled and dedicated leaders, education is another prerequisite for development of a State.
Education is one asset which is more valuable than anything else.
Although it is accepted that natural resources of a State is one important factor for economic development of a State, human resources development has taken the central role in economic development of a nation, Prof W Nabakumar said.
While facing various problems being encountered in the Manipuri society, it is imperative to enhance human resources at the same time for the sake of future, he asserted.
