A new organisation committed to revive the declining cultures of 'Umanglai Haraoba,' christened as 'Umanglai Haraoba Kanglon Ngak Senba Lup' has been formed.
Talking to reporters today at the office of HERICOUN located at Nongmeibung, Prof Ng Kangjya, who is also appointed as the chairman of the organisation, announced other officials of the organisation.
N Indramani of the Manipur State Archives has been appointed as the vice-chairman, while convenor of UKAL, M Maniton is appointed as the convenor of the organisation.
M Surjaboro is appointed as the co-convenor.
The members of the newly floated organisation were Pandit Achouba Ng Kirani, Maichou Purel M Apabi, Pandit Yaima W Lukhoi, A Amarmachang, S Kondumba, Kh Mangi, K Bibu, Maibam Doren, S Rajmohon, RR Chothe, and Mutuwa Bahadur.
Prof Kangjya said there have been over 100 cases relating to dictating of 'Maibis/Maibas' by drunken persons during Umanglai Haraoba.
He said to prevent such unwanted incidents and to preserve the traditional form of 'Umanglai Haraoba,' the association has been formed.
He said the 'Umanglai Haraoba Kanglon Ngak Senba Lup' will also bring out a book on traditional Umanglai Haraoba ceremony.
Towards this end, an international conference will be held on August 23 .
Convenor of UKAL as well as the newly floated organisation, M Maniton appealed all concerned to participate in the coming conference on August 23 .
