Ranjit promises equal development

As a part of inspecting hill areas under the theme �Development for Peace,' Works Minister K Ranjit has concluded a two-day tour to the interiors of Ukhrul district on February 14 and 15 during which he inspected the developmental works being taken up in the areas.
The Minister, accompanied by officials of the PWD, visited Kasom Khulen, Phungyar and Shangshak where he supervised the progress of the roads, bridges and other developmental works being taken up by the government.
Addressing a gathering at Kasom Khullen and Phungyar during his itinerary, the Works Minister, K Ranjit said that there is a government programme to convert the Chandrakhong to Kasom Khullen road as a double-lane with assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
He further said that an estimate has been prepared for the improvement and maintenance works of the road stretch.
Ranjit also said that a prepared project for the upgradation and renovation of the road from Tengnoupal to Sangshak � the construction works of which was handed over to the state's Public Works Department by the Border Road Organisation �has been submitted to the concerned Union Ministry by the state government.
He also said that there is great possibility of receiving sanction from the concerned ministry.
Asserting that the Ibobi-led Secular Progressive Front government of Manipur is working hard for equal prosperity of the hill and valley areas, the Minister said that the hill and the valley areas are being looked at equally by the government.
Ranjit also said that his tour is a part of realisation of the instruction of the Chief Minister who instructs his ministers to tour the interiors of the state and know the needs and wants of the people.
Saying that the public are the bona fide possessor of the constructed roads, the Minister also appealed to the public to extend cooperation and help the government in its endeavours.
On the last leg of the two-day tour programme, K Ranjit also inspected the proposed site for the construction of Sub-divisional office, staff quarters, inspection bungalow at Phungyar Subdivision headquarters and he assured that the office will be constructed at the earliest time possible.
Ending his two-day visit to Ukhrul, the Minister and officials reached Imphal late yesterday evening.
It is worth mentioning here that K Ranjit was accorded warm reception by huge crowds of villagers including school children at all the places he went in the interior parts of Ukhrul district.
The Minister was apparently touched by the local people's hospitality and friendly gesture.
