Ukhrul, February 16 2009:
In a bid to intensify its demands, the joint action committee of Autonomous District Cou-ncil Appointed Teachers has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today urging him of resorting to a bandh call if the Government fails to reciprocate it positively.
Interacting with The Sangai Express, the convener of the JAC, RS Khawungsing alleged that State Government led by O Ibobi Singh had done nothing precious when it comes to the areas of governance and development particularly in the hill districts of the State.
Although the appointment of teachers had been done way back in 2006 under the ADC of hill districts in Manipur, the appointed teachers numbering 835 have received the salaries of only eight months so far, the convener said, adding salaries of 22 months are yet to be disbursed by the Government besides arrears, allowances etc.
Resenting over the Government's alleged lackadaisical attitude towards Government institutions, infrastructures, and many other developmental programmes in the six hill districts of Manipur, the memorandum has warned the State Government of even resorting to a State-wide bandh in case the JAC's demands are not met within 12 days from
today.
Among others, the JAC's demands include immediate release of salaries that have so far lapsed, arrears and allowances of the teachers.
Recounting the 24 hours bandh called by ADC employees of six hill districts on January 27, the JAC maintained that the Government had at that time appealed to wait for another seven days, but there has not been any positive response from the Government, it said.
The JAC has also appealed the citizens of Manipur to cooperate with the demands and also bear the onus that may arise in the event of the Government's failure to give positive response.
The memorandum was jointly signed by JAC convener, RS Khawungsing, Churachandpur ADC, ML Haokip Tamenglong ADC, Kuhengbou Lemta, Kangpokpi ADC, Khupkhai Haokip, Senapati ADC M Hopson and Chandel ADC, C David.
