Moves on for a united opposition front

In a bid to defeat the ruling Congress party in the upcoming election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Opposition parties have stepped up their activities of forming a common alliance.
Along with convening a meeting of its Working Committee on November 12, Manipur People's Party (MPP), which is one of the major Opposition parties, would be discussing the formation of an alliance of Opposition parties threadbare and a definite stand of the party is expected to be taken in the said meeting.
On the other hand, President of BJP Manipur Pradesh Shantikumar Sharma has informed that the understanding among the Opposition parties over formation of a common alliance to fight against the Congress party in the election is still there.
To finalize the matter, central leaders of BJP would be coming to Imphal on November 8 and 9, he disclosed.
President of Trinamool Congress, Manipur Pradesh Kim Gangte has categorically pointed out that there is no question of Trinamool Congress supping together with Congress party in the context of Manipur even if the two parties are partners in the UPA government at the centre.
Trinamool Congress would also be announcing its decision on alliance partners in the Assembly election very soon, Kim Gangte said, adding that toppling of the Congress led SPF government in Manipur is necessary in the public interest.
Meanwhile, Member of Central Committee S Shanta has informed that central leaders of the party, who visited the state recently, already announced two party candidates and names of more candidates would be announced in due course of time.
Party leaders have also held consultation with leaders of other Opposition parties in connection with formation of a common alliance, he added.
