Tree saplings handed over to E Valentina

N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer, Chandel (Soil and Water Conservation), while attending a function to acknowledge the spirit of E Valentina for her love of plants and nature, appreciated her parents for instilling the love of nature and plants in her formative years adding that her school namely Amutombi Divine Life School and teachers also played major role in infusing the same spirit of love for plants and nature in the young mind of Valentina.
"We hope that the other students also develop the same spirit and love towards plants and nature", he added.
He continued that he was moved by the love and care shown by Valentina towards plants and nature after he witnessed her weeping when she found some trees being cut as if they were her own family members.
"This act has reminded him of the world famous 'Chipko Movement' initiated by Chandni Prasad Bhatt and Sunderlal Bahuguna and 'Navandaya Movement by Vadana Shiva etc", said the forest officer.
He also apprised the students about the extraordinary work taken up by many dedicated environmentalists like Jadev Payeng, the maker of Majuli, the largest River island in the world; MC Mehta, the Green Advocate; Rajendra Singh, the Waterman of India who did a lot for water conservation in country; Medha Parker of Narmada Bachao Andolan etc.
He exuded hope that some day E Valentina will evolve as one of dedicated environmental activists and force a reckon with in the preservation and protection of natural habitat in the region.
As part of the function, about 1,000 saplings were distributed to the students.
The forest officer urged the students to plant the trees with love and care and protect them till they are grown fully.
A small sum of Rs 1,000 was also given to E Valentina Devi by N Munal Meitei as a token of love and acknowledgement for her love and care for plants.
The function was also attended by Md Salllaudin, Dy Ranger, Forest Beat Officer, Pallel and W Ramchandra Singh, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Thoubal.
