Imphal, October 30 2011:
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya has admitted that Anganwadi Centres have not been able to function in a full-fledged manner in Manipur.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the 3rd foundation day function of Shree Sri Sri Govinda Yoga Centre at Uripok Laikhurembi Leikai today, Dr Meinya pointed out that the government has provided only the necessary fund for running the Anganwadi Centres where the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers are supposed to look after the needs of the kids upto the age of 6 years.
These workers and helpers are not employees of the government; they are normally the sisters or aunties of these kids.
Yet, the Anganwadi centres have not been able to function properly in Manipur.
Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Dr H Nandakumar Sharma presided over the function which was also attended by General Secretary of Manipur State Yoga Association Dr N Ibohal as Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, students of Sri Sri Radha Govinda Yoga Centre demonstrated various Asanas.
Dr Meinya also released booklet titled 'Hakchangidamak Yoga Asanas' .
