Migratory birds arrive in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, October 30 2011:
As winter season approaches, the migratory birds from Siberia have started arriving and enjoying cold climate once again in Tamenglong district of Manipur.
This year the birds halted the night along the upper Irang (Alang) river basin and along the upper Barak river.
Though the district administration did not announce any ban against the killing of the migratory birds, the Indigenous Women and Children Foundation, IWCF has come out against the killing of the birds.
Though roasted birds are not being sold in open market, some people are going around hawking the roasted meet.
As usual many individuals have said to have purchased air gun for hunting the migratory birds.
It may be mentioned here that the roasted bird cost Rs 60 per bird in last year.
A reliable source said that the hunters are finding it difficult in the last four/ five years as there was no bamboo to sit during the night.
11 Assam Rifle donate sport materials in Tameng-long: In continuation of its Military Civic Action (MCA) Programme , 11 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield division distributed various sports items to Dailong Youth Organisation, Immanual Public School, Mandeu Student Union and K.G.B.V New Mandeu, said a press release.
Local leaders and people of these villages as well as of various educational institutions had earlier approached the battalion requesting for provision of sports materials.
Such assistance will surely encourage promotion of sports in the far flung and remote areas Tamenglong District.
This noble gesture is highly appreciated by local populace, the release added.
