Imphal, June 07, 2013:
People for Animals (PFA), Thoubal think has endorsed the demands of All Manipur Forest Department Employees' & Workers' Union as genuine.
In a statement, Managing Trustee of PFA Thoubal L.Biswajeet Meitei observed that the Union is demanding to the authority concerned to make the casual employees recognised as contract worker and further to absorb them as regular employees.
There are about 282 casual employees working under this Dept at present either as Forest Guards, Drivers, Peons, LDC, etc.
"Protection of our forest and wildlife are directly in the hands of these employees.
Keibul Lamjao National Park has only 4 regular guards and 20 casuals to guard our beloved Sangai and they received honorarium of about Rs 3500 only.
How can a staff who is financially quiet unsound and have unsecured employment devoted his service day and night", Biswajeet questioned, adding that it is not a matter their life or their job only, but about our precious wildlife and ecology.
He went on to point out that many of them have rendered their services for about 20 years and some got retired as casual employees.
The Govt.should look into their matter.
Modernisation of Forest Dept is essential to cope up with the problem like wildlife criminals.
Assam has inducted unmanned plane to petrol Kaziranga Nation Park.
Their police have decided to take wildlife crimes as most important next to controlling law and order while their casual staff guards Sangai with paddle boats, Biswajeet noted.
