Imphal, June 07, 2013:
The JAC against the forced eviction of Naga River lane, Kabo Leikai has resolved to file a case against the State Government at the Supreme Court for contempt of Court's order.
This was decided during an emergency meeting of the JAC held today at Dewlahland, according to a statement issued by the finance secretary of the JAC, AC Raising.
At the same time, JAC also urged the authorities concerned to withdraw police personnel deputed within Naga River lane and lift all prohibitory orders clamped in the area.
The JAC also decried that the concerned authority pays no heed to cease work in the area despite the Chief Engineer (IFCD) being served a Court's order to discontinue any kind of works that may effect the topography of the Naga River lane.
Highlighting the grievances faced by the displaced families, the JAC statement pointed out that the academic career of hundred students whose terminal exams are approaching within the locality is likely to be affected badly.
Besides, the health conditions of many senior citizens of the locality are deteriorating due to unhygienic living.
Further highlighting that many families who could not still afford to rent houses are staying amidst the debris in the ruin of their houses, the JAC urged all concerned to come forward in helping the displaced families and extended moral and material assistance to them.
Meanwhile, the JAC also expressed profound gratitude to all concerned individuals, organisations and Churches who extended financial and material assistance to the victims so far.
