A five-day long book exhibition has begun from today at Manipur State Art Gallery, Palace Compound here.
Being organised under the auspices of Manipur State Kala Akademi, the inaugural function of the book exhibition was attended by Commissioner of Art and Culture Dr RK Nimai Singh as chief guest and president of Ranganathan Society for Book Culture, Library and Informatics Studies, NE Chapter Dr N Giridhari Singh as functional president.
Delivering the welcome address, secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi Kh Sorojini Devi said that the books on literature, history, dance, fine arts, etc of Manipur would be show-cased during the exhibition which would go on till June 27 .
Speaking on the 'role of Akademi library in the State', Librarian of Manipur University Dr Kh Khomdon Singh observed that apart from generating the public interest in book reading, a habit which is slowly dying, the exhibition aims to expose the State's younger generation to its rich art and culture.
He informed that many rare books would be exhibited in the exhibition for first time.
