With no rain in the last around three months in the state, villagers of Sandangkhomba Maring village located 14 kilometer on the east of Imphal along the Imphal-Yairipok road have faced severe water scarcity problem.
A team of media with the officials of the National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) visited the village today found the villagers facing acute shortage of water.
During the interaction, the villagers strongly urged the state government to construction a big water reservoir point in the village.
"We don't take seriously when authorities do not take up works for getting power supply and for improvement of road communication.
But the woe of water scarcity could not be bear with," said the chairman of the village authority Koning Kondun during an interaction with the media persons.
Villagers are going round in search of water at Uthalok, Sakelok, Huikaplok, Wangkhemlok etc.
located two to three kilometer away from the village where water available at little amounts.
They also go to uphill which take around one hour to trek for fetching water, the chairman said.
Usually the villagers face water scarcity problem during the month from December to May but in other rainy season there are plenty of water and there no problem in getting the same.
Some 10 year back, during the period of MLA Abdul Matalip, a water reservoir was built at the top of the Nongmaiching hill.
From there which is located around 8 km distance from the village, water was brought to the village with GI pipe.
There was no water problem in the village.
But with due course of time, the small water reservoir at the village could not meet the requirement of the villagers.
Currently, the villagers are fetching water from a place at the top of the hill located some one km.
But due to overuse, the pond become dry up and the water also become unfit for drinking and other purposes, he said.
NIPCO vice-president, Arjun Pukhrambam who was among the visiting after hearing the woe facing by the villagers appealed the authorities of the state government to construct a big water reservoir pond in the village.
