In the continue drive against drugs and alcohol, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol, Manipur (CADA) Thoubal District Committee has caught 170 litres local liquor from four vendors, one of them being woman during the drive at different areas conducted on June 15 and 16 last.
A release of CADA issued by its Secretary Information and Publicity, Farooq Khullakpam identified the vendors as Koijam Shyam (45) of Wabagai Mairenbam Leikai, Thounaojam Nando (48) of Tejpur Makha Leikai, Th Meme (45) of Tejpur Makha Leikai and Yumnam Maniton (56) of Lamjao Makha Leikai.
The caught liquor has been destroyed in public while the four have been released with the advise not to indulge in such activities in future.
The statement further stated that a public convention was organized by CADA as a part of mass awareness campaign against narcotic substances at the Genuine English School, Jiri on June 16 last.
Awang Jiri Santiraksha Marup took main role in the successful holding of the convention in which Laishram Rani, Leitanthem Gambhini and Laishram Kumarjit graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Meanwhile, a statement of the All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) also said that 42 litres of liquor has been caught from four persons during a drives conducted at different places, Nganappi-thong, Tera Lukram Leirak and Porompat JN Hospital Road from June 13 to 17 last.
A statement of AMADA signed by its Deputy Secretary Drive Committee, Kh Sophia Leima identified the four persons as Keisham Ibobi (54) of Nganappi-thong Mapal (Nganappi Panthak), Ashem Shomi (37) of Tera Lukram Leirak, Kshetrimayum Bibi (30) of Lera Lukram Leirak and Ngampi Singrei Tangkhul (43) from Porompat JN Hospital Road.
The caught liquor was destroyed in public place and all the four persons were released with advise not to repeat such illegal business in future.
