Price Monitoring Committee inactive

Although the state government had constituted a Price Monitoring Committees to check prices of commodities in the state, the committees is inactive even as the prices of daily commodities are sky high.
According to a highly placed source, price monitoring committees were formed in some of the sub-divisions.
State home department had issued notification on September, 2010 to SDOs to form the committees.
Following the order, a Sub-Divisional Level Price Monitoring Committee of Lamphel Sub-Division was formed by Deputy Commissioner Imphal West on September 6 last year which covers Imphal city.
The committee is conferred powers to check prices of essential commodities and take up necessary actions against a person storing goods without a proper storage licence under the Essential Commodities Act 1950.The committee is also conferred power to raid godowns.
SDO, Lamphel is the chairman of the committee.
SDPO, Lamphel, SDC, Imphal West (Central), Sub Divisional AO, Lamphel, President or Secretary of Consumer Club Manipur, Asst Director CAF&PC are the members of the committee while SDC, Lamphel is the member secretary.
