Imphal, January 17, 2011:
Suspected UGs fired several rounds at a house in Nambol Maning Leikai under Nambol Police Station last night even as a failed bomb attack was launched at the residence of Joint Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department at Khagempali under Singjamei Police Station in the afternoon today.
No casualties were reported when the miscreants fired at the house of Asem Chaoba of Nambol Maning Leikai around 8.30 pm last night.
Womenfolk of the locality staged a sit-in protest at Pukhrambam Market-shed today decrying the act.
The youngest son of Chaoba said that before the miscreants open fire at their house, they called out his father.
However, the family members did not respond because no one knew the identities of those calling out for Chaoba.
Getting no response they kicked the door and later they fired around 20 rounds towards the house leaving several bore marks on the wall and the door of the house, he recalled.
Womenfolk taking part in the sit-in protest said that the act of the miscreants was an intention to kill members of the family and demanded that if any UG group is responsible for the act, they should make it known to the family and to the public as well.
Meanwhile, suspected UGs hurled a bomb at the residence of Nongthombam Dhananjoy, Joint Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry this afternoon at 3.05 pm.
Two miscreants lobbed the bomb inside the house.
A police team destroyed the bomb at an open place at Waishel Maril after defusing it safely around 4.30 pm.
