The Kangleipak Loinashillon Apunba Marup (KALAM) today celebrated its eighth foundation today with a function at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU).
On the occasion, KALAM also honoured president of MEELAL, Naodalen Khomba and Editor of the Meetei Mayek edition of the Hueiyen Lanpao, Shivadutt Luwang with special gifts and mementos.
Theatre director, Naorem Kalimohon graced the function as Chief Guest in the function presided by Kalam President, Keithellakpam Sanahongba Mangang.
Former lecturer of Thoubal College, Kabiraj M Rajendro also attended as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, theatre director K Kalimohon observed that for communication among the people in a society, language and its scripts is a must.
Script of a particular language is the identity of the community.
Manipur can be proud of having its own scripts "Meetei Mayek" which was preserved by the forefathers.

He further said that even though Meetei Mayek was in a doomed state for some time since the introduction of Bangali script in the state by Shantidas Goshai, now the script has been revived and is fast developing.
With the passage of time, now people can read newspaper written in the script.
Editor of Meetei Mayek edition of Hueiyen Lanpao, M Shivdutt lauded the efforts of MEELAL and KALAM in reviving the Meetei Mayek script.
As a fruit of tireless efforts of the two bodies, now the scripts has starting replacing the Bengali script and has been introduced in schools.
However, he said that there is a long way ahead.
For further development of the script, there is a need for academic approach as well as political strategies.
There is lack of reading materials like dictionary and others.
The Meetei Mayek edition of the Hueiyen Lanpao was started with the objective of providing an academic approach.
For all this, a concerted effort of the people is needed, he added.
General secretary of KALAM, Mayengbam Unbileima giving key note address of the function said Manipuri society could live with pride in the globe for the last 500 years or so because of its unique society, religion, culture and courageous forefathers.
The foundation function was also marked by recitation of poems by writers.
