Imphal, October 04 2009:
A special meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party, yaiskul Mandal held today at the Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leikai residence of the former Chief Minister RK Dorendra resolved to put up a consensus candidate for the by-election to Yaiskul Assembly Constituency.
A statement issued by the BJP State unit's secretary of Organisation and Media Affairs, L Basanta said the meeting had a lengthy discussion on the prevailing socio-political situation in the State as a consequence of the mass public movement against the SPF Government.
Taking into account sentiment of the general public, the BJP meeting decided to consult public leaders, NGO representatives, members of civil society organisations and other political organisations so as to pave the way for setting up a consensus candidate to ensure defeat of the Congress nominee, if any, at the
hustings.
At the deliberation session, it was opined that the by-election is a blessing in disguise to respond to the people's desire for reshaping Manipur in the political perspective, especially taking into account mass upheaval and decline in the popularity of the SPF Government, led by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the secretary conveyed.
While those present also expressed sorrow at the untimely demise of Yaiskul AC MLA (L) E Kunjeswor, it was also resolved to entrust BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders for intimating and consulting representatives of NGOs and leaders of opposition political parties in nominating a consensus candidate.
The Yaiskul Congress Block Committee also held a meeting to discuss the coming by election.
