KNO demands proof of charges
Source: Hueiyen News Service

CCPur, October 04 2009: The KNA/KNO has sought evidence to the concerned organisations on the allegation against the outfit of issuing warning to two leaders of Kuki Welfare Association and Kuki Women for Human Right, Chandel district for which a rally was taken out against the alleged threat on September 29, which appeared in local dailies.

The outfit also pledged to take appropriate action if the allegation is proven.

Stating that the rally against the KNA/KNO was instigated by the UKLF, a statement issued by T.Stephen Kuki, under secretary, publicity and information of KNO, reiterated the organisation's unstinting commitment to serve the cause of the Kuki people while reminding the Kukis in Chandel district that it was the KNA/KNO that emancipated the land from the stronghold of NSCN (IM) in the 1990s."Given this recent history, KNA/KNO finds it incredible that Kuki Welfare Association and Kuki Women for Human Rights should object to the setting up of KNO designated camp in Chandel District," it asserted.

Providing details of the incident of allegation on the threats of two social leaders, T Stephen Kuki pointed out that when Thangboi, the commander of KNA's Wing 5 asked the two leaders the basis for their opposition, their reply was, UKLF made to do so at gun point.

Additionally, KNO/KNA finds it rather curious that UKLF and their ally NSCN(IM) were not mentioned by ISTV and local newspapers amongst the list of UGs operating in Chandel District.

Clearly, these two organizations were not included in the list because the concerned social organizations wished them not to be, Stephen observed.

The statement also found it odd that there was no demonstration by Kuki Welfare Association, Kuki Women for Human Rights, Kuki Chiefs Association (Chandel), Thadou Students Association(organizers of the rally against KNA) when UKLF warned Kuki Chiefs, seized their land ownership rights, killed innocents civilian, warned leaders of Hill Tribal Council, the kuki Inpi and KSO.

It added that the participation of the TSA is a dead give-away to the instigator of the rally - the UKLF who has a presence in Pallel, where the rally against KNA took place.

UKLF is an ardent proponent of Thadou, which has been the bane of Kuki community.

Stephen observed that the breakup of the Kukis is direct result of Thadou chauvinism while pointing out that Thadou chauvinism drove away several old Kukis in Chandel district in the last two/three decades which forced them to adopt Naga as their political identity.

Contrary to proponents of Thadou students, other student organizations such as Haokip Students Organisation abandoned clan-based organizations in favour of community based Kuki students organization (KSO).However, UKLF continues unabatedly to remain a prop for Thadou chauvinism.

Perhaps, their organization should be renamed United Thadou Liberation Front, the KNO statement noted.

"KNO/KNA also learnt that UKLF threatened to impose a fine of Rs.5oo to any Kuki Chiefs in Chandel district who did not participate in the rally.

Ordinary Kuki men and Women, who did not took part in the rally, were to be fined up Rs.2oo and Rs.1oo respectively," the statement observed.

KNO/KNA would urge every sensible Kuki social organizations to resist and refrain from being utilized by UKLF in their design to further disintegrate Kuki society and people, urged T Stephen Kuki.

MEANWHILE, our Kakching correspondent reports that the convenor of the JAC against the threat to social leaders, Amang Haokip clarified that the rally on September 29 was neither instigated by the UKLF nor did any other armed groups.

It was never held against any particular underground group.

Talking to media persons today, Amang Haokip averred that the agitations should be intensified if any organisation continues to threat social leaders while reacting to the statement of the KNO/KNA.

He appealed all concerned armed groups not to intervene on social issue.

Rejecting the claim of the KNO/KNA that the outfit was instrumental in liberating the Kuki people of Chandel district from the clutch of the NSCN (IM) in the Kuki-Naga clash, Amang Haokip said that neither the KNO/KNA nor the UKLF emancipated the people from the NSCN (IM).

He said it was the Kuki Defence Force (KDF) and the Southern Kuki Boys' Commando (SKBC) who gave protection and safeguarded the Kuki people of Chandel district in the ethnic clash.

Denying the charge that any absentee of the rally would be imposed a fine, Amang said it was baseless allegation.

He however said that the JAC against the threatening of social leaders has announced a fine of Rs 100 and Rs 200 to ordinary persons and chiefs respectively in order to ensure the success of the rally.

But the matter has not been related to the UKLF.The statement also found it odd that there was no demonstration by Kuki Welfare Association, Kuki Women for Human Rights, Kuki Chiefs Association(Chandel), Thadou Students Associatio (organizers of the rally against KNA) when UKLF warned Kuki Chiefs, seized their land ownership rights, killed innocents civilian, warned leaders of Hill Tribal Council, the kuki Inpi and KSO.

It added that the participation of the TSA is a dead give-away to the instigator of the rally - the UKLF who has a presence in Pallel, where the rally against KNA took place.
