Imphal, July 20 2009:
The massacre that took place at the main camp of the 1st battalion of KYKL on June 20 was carried out by only seven/eight persons including three Corporals.
The rest were threatened and taken along with them forcibly.
Those seven/eight leaders of MDF (Military Defence Force) and their so-called leader Capt Rishikanta are murderers and criminals.
They will be given befitting punishment.
This was announced was today by Lanngamba Mangang, Secretary, Publicity and Research, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) on behalf of the Central Committee of the party, while issuing a rejoinder to the announcement of the formation of the KYKL faction MDF on July 18 .
The faction of the MYL (Meeyamgee Yawol Lanmee) led by a group of unruly NCOs had conspired and massacred nine cadres of MYL including the CO of 1st Bn, Lt Col Nikel and Lt Khamba and ran away to form the MDF by giving the name of Rishikanta, who was earlier a captain of the MYL, but had kept away from the party and has had no link with it, as the Co of the faction, the statement said.
It stated that what the MDF had charged that the moral characters among the cadres had degenerated is true.
This is the same thought that has occurred to the collective leadership of KYKL since four years ago.
For this, the party has been taking up an intensive drive of reforming its functioning, changing organisational methods, reviewing financial policies and rectification of characters within the party.
The drive is going on more intensively among the leadership and the senior officers, Lanngamba Mangang stated and addded that declaration of properties of the leaders, reducing expenditure, shortening the period of submitting the budget, etc are being done regularly.
What happened at the 1st Bn was the result of inability to bear the tightening of self discipline and the pains of doing good, among other factors, he stated.
Lanngamba Mangang further pointed out that as part of rectification drive within the party, those officers with weak behaviours, characterlessness and indiscipline are not given important positions by the leadership.
Persons of such weak moral characters about whose reports and evidences of characterlessness have been received repeatedly are kept aside.
Thus several persons had been dismissed from the party, Lanngamba Mangang informed.
Among them were Capt Rishikanta and Capt Athouba as well.
It is quite natural that they would feel peeved at the party.
They are only good at feeling resentment without looking at their own mistakes.
They think that treating those good persons well and giving them important posts are acts of favoritism, he added.
He further said that at such a time when the entire revolutionary movement of the region is backtracking, it is natural that spineless persons would lose confidence in the struggle for liberation and spit at the party and join hands with the real enemies of the movement.
Those who retire from the party in the manner the party approves will have to live their life as a poor labourer and that too as an underground.
Otherwise those who want to quit the party by driving jeep-car and living in nice buildings will have to set up mafia gangs.
They have to extort money from the people by squeezing them like wet towel, Lanngamba stated.
This is exactly what Lt Col Wangba of MYL did.
Any cadre who forms faction within the party and who refuses to engage in the process of reconciliation must be given capital punishment, which is an established rule in the party's constitution.
There is nothing to feel angry about for those who know the truth except those errant cadres, Lanngamba pointed out.
Saying that the KYKL has come to know the facts about the massacre of June 20, Lanngamba said that three of those cadres who had deserted the camp have fled the faction and now have reached the GHQ.
The massacre was carried out by only seven/eight persons including three corporals.
Most of them were theratened and forcibly taken away along with them.
Three cadres who refused to go along with them that night were shot dead in front of the others.
Being afraid of the sudden execution, no one dared say he did not want to go.
Then later even if they return, the party may not trust them any more, they suspect.
