Manipur State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society has urged all concerned not to misuse the Red Cross emblem.
Addressing newspersons today at the office of the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur branch located at MG Avenue here, Secretary of IRC Manipur State Branch, Dr M Lala observed that the Red Cross emblem has been misused in Manipur.
Dr Lala said, the people of the state have taken that the 'red cross' symbol on a white background is used by the doctors.
There have been instances when bandh or strike supporters let the user of the emblem go freely during bandh or strike.
He said, this is one case where the emblem has been misused in the state.
Dr Lala observed that the lose use of the emblem has reduced the importance of the emblem when it is used in its rightful place and time.
He therefore urged all concerned not to misuse the emblem.
He added that the Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organisation providing relief in times of emergencies and promotes health and care of the vulnerable people and communities.
He said the Indian Red Cross Society was founded in 1920.The Manipur State branch of the IRC was founded in 1968 .
The Mission of the Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimised.
He therefore urged the people not to misuse its emblem and cause confusion in the minds of the people.
Cooperation delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), New Delhi Paul Keen and John George, cooperation assistant, ICRC, New Delhi, who were present on the occasion, have also interacted with the media.
