DEPUTY SPEAKER of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Shyamkumar today said that he will lodge a complaint with a court in Imphal East praying for speedy trial of his case against the Delhi police.
He lamented that his case has not yet begun.
Opposing the charges levelled against him when he was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport two and a half years back on October 2, 2006 by Delhi Police personnel in civvies, Shyamkumar said that he had been detained on the basis of a wrong information.
Addres s ing a pres s conference at his official quarter, the Deputy Speaker said, Delhi Police arrested and detained him in Tihar jail for some time on unfounded allegations and without conducting any trial to prove him guilty.
He has been kept in confusion for a long time, he bemoaned.
"I want a speedy trial of the case so that I can resign from the Deputy Speakership, even from the MLAship if they can prove that I am guilty," the Deputy Speaker said.
It may be recalled here that Shyamkumar was elected as Member of the state Assembly from Andro Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district in the last Assembly elections.
"I will go to court with a prayer for speeding up the trial which has been pending with the Delhi police.
I will urge the court to give me a regular bail, if the trial is delayed further," he added.
Stating that he was elected as people representative from Andro Kendra in March 2007 under the Indian Constitution and swear as Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly, Shyamkumar observed that he got the respectable seat with the support of all the 60 MLAs.
But without showing due respect to the people's mandate, the trial for delivering justice in the case is still lying unopened.
He expressed his desire of the trial to be conducted at the earliest, he added.
Mention may be made that on October 2, 2006, Th Shyamkumar was arrested by the Delhi police while trying to fly for Nepal from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on the alleged charge of link with the proscribed UNLF outfit and sent to Tihar Jail.
He contested the election from Andro Assembly Constituency as MPP candidate and won it a huge margin.
