The ongoing Manipur Tourism Festival which was earlier scheduled to be concluded on Dec 19 would now be concluded on Dec 20 .
This was announced by Link Commissioner of State Tourism Dept KK Chhetry while addressing a press conference at the Hapta Kangjeibing main avenue of the festival today.
The Commissioner explained that the decision to conclude the festival on Dec 20 has been taken in view of the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency on Dec 19.Consequently, there would also be no programme of the festival on December 19 .
The Link Commissioner informed that the overwhelming response of the public and tourists to the festival which was inaugurated on December 11 is beyond the expectation of the State Govt.The Govt has received application from the foreign tourists seeking permission for visiting Tamenglong and other parts of the State.
Expressing confidence of organising even a bigger and more successful festival from next year, the Link Commissioner further informed that besides participants from Thailand, 2-3 stalls from Bangladesh are also participating in the ongoing festival.
On top of this, a cultural troupe from Myanmar would be arriving here to given their performance on December 15 and 16.To resolve the problem of traffic for reaching the main venue of the festival at Hapta Kangjeibung, SP Imphal East has been entrusted to do the needful.
The riders from Thailand who are here to present BMX show have also assured of imparting their knowledge to interested Manipuri riders, the Link Commissioner informed.
