The 24 hours bandh called by the All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers Association ended peacefully today at 6.30 pm.
The bandh was held from 6.30 pm yesterday till 6.30 pm.
The demands of the teachers include, a policy for the contract basis teachers, release of salaries of the teachers, service extension of the teachers etc.
Speaking to the press, general secretary of the association R Leivon said that the bandh was success in the hill districts.
Leivon said that if the Government does not heed their demands even after the bandh, then they would be constrained to impose economic blockades on the two National Highways.
During the bandh, all inter district buses suspended service for the day and there no service of inter State bus while goods carrier also suspended for the day.
However as announced earlier, the bandh was relaxed for educational institutions.
R Leivon said that two years back, the Government appointed the contract basis to make up for the shortage of teachers in the hill districts at the primary level, Hindi graduate teachers, Hindi matriculate teachers and Science graduate teachers at the hill districts.
As per a Cabinet decision, the service of primary teachers, Hindi graduate teachers, Hindi matriculate teachers were extended from April till September this year, but the same was not applied in the case of Science and arts graduate teachers.
