Ukhrul, November 14 2009:
Peeved with the callous attitude of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) over handling the case of setting on fire a Marhsal Jeep by alleged UADC appointee bandh supporters on September 19, Ukhrul District Light Vehicle Owner Association (UDLVOA) has submitted a memorandum giving four days' time to redress the issue.
Submission of the memorandum giving a four days' deadline to TNL has come about after an emergency meeting of UDLVOA yesterday.
According to a statement issued jointly by UDLVOA president C Hormi and secretary NG Shingnaisui, the meeting strongly denounced the dilly-dallying tactics of TNL from resolving the issue concerning torching of a Marshal Jeep belonging to one of members of the Organisation by UADC appointees' bandh supporters on September 19 last near a sand quarry at Lower Hundung.
The statement reminded that on that fateful day, TNL had announced to the public using loud speaker that the bandh could not be enforced in Ukhrul and that everyone should continue with their normal activities without any hindrance.
Consequently, all the inter-district bus services were plied, shops were opened and the public continued with their daily chores.
However, one of the UDLVOA vehicles had been singled out and torched at Hundung while some other vehicles like Van and Gypsy were allowed to pass.
UDLVOA has been hoping that due justice would be delivered as TNL, which has in the first place warned against approaching the police on the matter and gave the assurance of a amicable solution within a stipulated timeframe.
However, even after 8 weeks of the incident, TNL has not done anything towards resolving the issue.
On the contrary, when UDLVOA approached TNL in this regard, the former has been surprised with that suggestion that it would be better to approach the police to seek justice.
This is nothing but an insult not only on the Organisation which has been serving the people sincerely but also on the trust repose for justice, the UDLVOA statement contended, while warning of a series of agitation against TNL if it fails to act positively on the demand of the UDLVOA within the given deadline.
UDLVOA has also called on the public for support and understanding its cry for justice.
