Imphal, August 07:
As per recruitment rules of the State Government, teachers of grant-in-aid schools for which grants have been cancelled, cannot be recruited into Government service, informed a highly placed source in the Education Department.
Nevertheless, the Government would be looking into where these approved teachers of grant-in-aid schools can be utilised, informed the source.
According to the Manipur Grant-in-Aid to the School Rules 1977, grants to 171 schools out of total 604 schools were cancelled recently as these schools were found not fulfilling necessary criteria.
However, concerned DCs have been asked to see whether these schools can be revived again by reinstating the cancelled grant-in-aid.
For this, district-wise lists of these 171 schools have been compiled.
The DCs have been already instructed to submit their investigation reports on the viability of reviving the 171 schools.
In most cases, a grant-in-aid school where there was only approved teacher, the school management committee recruited four/five teachers whose salaries were paid from the salary of the approved teacher.
As many of these schools lack students and buildings, grant-in-aid to these schools were cancelled.
However, for the remaining 433 grant-in-aid schools, due grants up to the month of June this year have been released, added the source.
