Imphal, March 01 2009:: The 11th edition of the Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament 2008-09 organised by the Manipur Hockey Association has commenced today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Imphal. Altogether 10 different teams of the state are participating the tournament in which they will compete in two groups.The participating teams are MPSC, KHSC, Khongman, SEYO, Singjamei, HU, lairikyengbam Leikai, YCCIC, Ahallup in group A.Cosmo, Wangkhei, PHAM, Yaiskul, SAIRC, Takyel, UYAC, Uchekon and YAC, yaiskul are participating in group B. The opening match of the tournament was played between PHAM, yaiskul and COSMO, Wangkhei.

COSMO, Wangkhei won the match after defeating PHAM, Yaiskul 6-2.The match was dominantly played by the players of COSMO from the begining.

They tried many goal attempts against PHAM at various moments.

On the other hand players of PHAM played the match with their full strength and tried to score goals against COSMO.

But it was not an easy task for them to score goals against COSMO with their skillfull tactics. COSMO got two penalty shots and turned out one into goal.

On the other hand PHAM got seven penalty shots but they could not scored more than one goal from the seven penalties. The first goal of the match was scored by Th Romesh of COSMO in the 16th minute of the match.

Players of PHAM tried hard to equalise the score position.

But to all their disappointment, L Herojit of COSMO striked another goal against them in the 27th minute of the match. With anxiety in their mind they played the match more substantially and their hard efforts finally paid when N Leijom of PHAM scored one goal against COSMO in the 30th minute of the match. With only one goal ahead of them PHAM players played the match with full determination to win the match against their strong opponent.

COSMO players too played the match more substantially.

They tried to score more and more goals agianst PHAM.

As a result RK Bikramjit of COSMO scored one more goal for his team in the 40th minute of the match. After that Th Manjeet also scored one goal adding one more credit in his team�s goal account in the 43rd minute of the match.

L Herojit scored his second and his team�s fifth goal against PHAM in the 48th minute.

With their hearts almost sank players of PHAM did not give up and tried hard to score goals against COSMO.

Their hard efforts did not went into vain as O Bonium of PHAM scored one goal against COSMO in the 58th minute.

The last goal of the match was scored by RK Bikramjit in the 62nd minute of the match.

It was his second goal in the match today. No further goals were scored by any players of PHAM and had to accept defeat when the conducting referee blowed the last whistle and the match concluded with COSMO winning by four goals. Today�s match was conducted by N Hemchand and RK Nirpen.

The next match of the tournament will be played between KHSC, Khongman and YCCIC, Ahallup at 1 pm in the afternoon tomorrow.

The second match tomorrow will be played between MPSC and SEYO, Singjamei at 2.45 pm in the evening.
