Imphal, August 23 2009: Observing that the present day Manipur has become a symbol of lawlessness under the incumbent Government, the JAC Against the Killing of Ch Sanjit has accused the political leaders of causing untold misery to the common people.

Bereft of any concern for the common people, the JAC alleged that the political leaders are instrumental for the killing of innocent civilians on daily basis just to consolidate their seats of power and amass personal wealth.

There is nothing to rejoice over the increased plan allocation of Rs 2000 crores for the current fiscal.

The whole amount would ultimately go into the pockets of Ministers and MLAs starting from the Chief Minister, possibly after setting aside certain amount for giving ex-gratia for killing innocent people, the JAC alleged.

The emerging trend of security personnel collaborating with UG groups and indulging in extortion and other criminal activities in the name of insurgents was a direct fall-out of the corruption, favouritism and nepotism exercised by Chief Minister O Ibobi who is also in charge of Home Department at the time of recruitment.

The JAC also questioned whether any action has been initiated against Havildar Kumar, Rifleman T Lotha and Rifleman Ajit Singh who signed on the arrest memo given to Th Monorama's family at the time of her arrest though Judicial enquiry conducted into the murder case was completed a long time back.

Asserting that the Government has put reports of several enquiries into cold storage, the JAC decried the act of conducting Magisterial Enquiry even as the people have been shouting that there was no need for any sort of enquiry including Judicial enquiry into the killing of Sanjit.

It demanded immediate termination of the ongoing Magisterial Enquiry process.

The JAC also denounced the act of security forces traumatising 11 year old girl Bidyarani for days because they could not nab her parents.

Taking strong exception to some Ministers and MLAs staying away from the burning issue while engaging themselves in distribution of pump sets, GI sheets and other articles as if they truly love the people, the JAC called upon the people not to divert their attention from the main issue.

It also appealed to local club volunteers, students and Meira Paibis to attend the monthly rites of late Sanjit to be solemnised at 9.45 am tomorrow at Khurai Sajor Leikai.

In a similar vein, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Thokchom (o) Rabina has lambasted the Government for conjuring different plots to suppress the mass movement instead of listening to the people's collective voice for justice.

Although almost one month has passed after the Khwairamband killing, the SPF Government has been working to cover up the truths and facts even after Tehelka has proved to the whole world that the July 23 killing was a pure case of fake encounter.

It questioned whether the SPF Government has done anything to deliver justice in the fake encounter case other than buying time on the pretext that no Judge was available to conduct Judicial enquiry.

Resorting to sheer brute force and using tear gas shells, rubber bullets, mock bombs and batons to quell the people's outcry cannot bring any solution to the issue besieging the state.

Such unrestrained employment of military/police force would be only adding fuel to the people's ire and ultimately intensification of the ongoing movement to a much higher scale, the JAC cautioned.

It asked whether there is any reason not to boycott all the 60 MLAs and impose 'public curfew'.

To bring amicable solution to the issue and bring justice in the fake encounter case, all those police commandos involved in the twin killing should be dismissed and their commanding officer (s) punished accordingly.

All the arrested activists of the Apunba Lup should be released without any condition and the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act scrapped completely, the JAC demanded.

If the Chief Minister cannot judge the issue fairly, he should resign on moral ground, it asserted.

Until and unless justice is done, the JAC, in coordination with the Apunba Lup and the people, would be continuing with various forms of protest movements, it added.
