Imphal, August 19 2009:
Appreciating efforts and assurances of political organisations such as the BJP and MPP in highlighting atrocities committed by security forces, the JAC Against the Killing of Ch Sanjit has asked other political parties to do the needful.
Cautioning that failure to understanding sentiment of the people in the aftermath of the July 23 BT road firing incident, the JAC specifically asked NCP, RJD, CPI, Janata Dal and CPI (M) as well as Independent MLAs to prove their commitment in upholding security and interest of the State masses.
Conveying thanks to the BJP Parliamentary team that recently visited and consoled family members of the deceased Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina Devi, the JAC also expressed hope that assurances given by the BJP team to highlight the fake encounter killings in Parliament would be translated into action.
In statement issued tonight, the JAC recounted that apart from condemning killing of two persons, including a pregnant Rabina, the BJP delegate pledged to prevail upon the Prime Minister that police commandos are rampantly terrorising Manipuris.
Desiring that like the BJP team conducting spot inspection/investigation into the July 23 firing that also injured five other civilians and promising all possible effort in ensuring justice is delivered, other political parties/leaders also have an obligation to the welfare and safety of the people, the JAC statement further opined that obstinacy of the Chief Minister to heed widespread calls to resign is due to support from the ruling MLAs.
In fact continuous support from the Congress legislators has emboldened O ibobi Singh to ignore genuine outcry of the people, it added.
Meanwhile, the JAC statement informed that Tadubi AC MLA K Raina today visited and shared solidarity to bereaved family members of Ch Sanjit at the residence of the deceased youth.
Apart from assuring to discuss the matter with other Independent MLAs, K Raina also extended financial assistance to Sanjit's family, the JAC informed.
