NESO sets Apr 25 date for solidarity movement

North East Students' Organisation (NESO) in collaboration with other student bodies in the region is all set to launch a North East wide solidarity movement in support of Irom Chanu Sharmila's struggle against prolonged imposition of AFSPA on April 25 .
A decision to this effect was adopted during a meeting of NESO at Guwahati yesterday.
As part of the solidarity movement, NESO officials will have a sit-in strike along with putting black cloths over their mouths at Guwahati from 4 pm to 6 pm on April 25.In the evening of the same day, candles would also be lit in every State capitals and other places of North East region.
The North East wide solidarity movement would be executed in association with All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) in Arunachal Pradesh, with All Assam Students' Union (AASU) in Assam, with All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) in Manipur, with Khasi Students' Union (KSU) in Shillong, with Gharo Students' Union (GSU) in Gharo and Tura of Meghalaya, with Mizo Zirlai Paul (MZP) in Mizoram, with Naga Students' Federation (NSF) in Nagaland and with Twipra Students' Federation) in Tripura.
In a statement, NESO has stated that it strongly feels that there is persistent discrimination and injustice against Irom Chanu Sharma and the people of North East by the Government of India.
NESO has also reiterated its support and solidarity to Anna Hazare's peaceful movement against corruption.
