Imphal, August 03 2009:
Maintaining that the report of Tehelka has presented all the required evidences in the July 23 'fake encounter' incident at BT Road, human rights activist Y Kapu has asserted that these evidences are sufficient enough to punish the guilty police commandos, regardless of whether the State Government is instituting a magisterial or Judicial inquiry.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Kapu said that the report of the Tehelka supported by 12 photographs was damning proof of how the two persons have been killed and five others injured in the incident and who were behind it.
Contending that no judicial or magistrate inquiry conducted by the Government would be able to come out with a more truthful report that would convince the people than the 12 photographs, Kapu said that now the people of Manipur do not have faith on the Government nor the Opposition or the police.
Exhorting the public, Kapu said that now that everyone knows that Sanjit was killed in a fake encounter, public should join hands together and send out a strong message that guilty should be punished and extract an assurance from the Government that such incidents would not be repeated.
Instead of keeping quiet, Opposition should also play its role to the expectation of the people, Kapu said, while calling upon all the JACs that had been formed in protest against such fake encounter incidents not to concede to signing any agreement with the Government.
