Imphal, July 30 2009: Police today foiled sit-in protest staged by the venders of the Khwairamband Market even as market places in Imphal area wore deserted look today owing the protest staged by the women venders demanding judicial probe into July 23 firing at Khwairamband market area in the board daylight.

Meanwhile, a bullet from one of the injured person in the controversial July 23 market firing incident have been taken out after operation today.

But hospital authority has refused family and reporters from observation stating that the case related with medico legal case (MLC).

Women venders of the Khwai market today staged a sit-in protest at the market sheds as a part of their demand for judicial enquiry into the firing incident which killed two including a young housewife and injured to five others.

The protest was organized jointly by the Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, Manipur Keithel phambi Apunba Lup, Street Vender Welfare Association, Khwairamband Keithel Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup and Nupi Keithel Semkat Sagat Lup.

The protest was started around 10 am but a strong team of police dispersed the women venders from staging the protest today.

They asked the vender to open their stalls and sale goods or left the place if not to open it using laud speaker.

Police also move round the market sheds with tear gas and other mob control devices which foiled the women venders from staging the protest.

The normal shopping and marketing at Singjamei Bazar also disturbed due to the protest staged by the women venders of the market area today.

During the protest, all shops in the bazaar remained closed.

Members of the Women Entrepreneurs for Justice (WEJ), Self Support Group (SSG) and Helping Hand Centre (SSC) also protested the incident by staging another sit-in protest on the southern side of the Hapta Kangjeibung.

Members participating in the protest alleged that bullets of police commandos killed seven month pregnant young Rabina and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident.

Slogans like, "Let the people know the truth behind the incident, make human rights and gender rights compulsory in imparting training to security forces, avail psychology trauma counseling to the minor children suffered directly and indirectly in the arm conflict, bring an end to the arm conflict in the state," etc.

were displayed at the protest site.

On the other hand, doctors at RIMs taken out the bullet from the hand of Mangal Golmei (56) of Keithelmanbi who sustained injury in the indiscriminate firing that took place in the crowded market area on July 23 .

However, the plea of the family for observation into the bullet has been turned down by the medical superintendent of the RIMS today stating that it has an exhibit of a case and hospital authority could not give permit to observe it as they were bounded by medico legal case.

Doctors have taken out the bullet on their third attempts as they could not find projectile during X-ray examination.

The projectile was taken out from his injured palm successfully today.

When the family insisted doctors to have a look into the projectile, doctors informed that it has been in the custody of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

The medical superintendent further refused to have a look into the projectile stating that he could not show it without the permission of the police handling the case.
