Imphal, July 30 2009:
At least two suspected underground activists were gunned down by security forces in two separate incidents and recovered small weapons.
One of the suspected underground activists was killed by a combined force of Imphal East and Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 Assam Rifles at Yairipok Changamdabi Eroilok, six km north east of Yairipok police station in Thoubal district today around 10.30 am.
Police claimed recovery of a 9 mm pistol loaded with three live rounds recovered from the slain suspect who was later identified as Moirangthem Mohen (40) son of M Nimai of Wangoo Sagollambi.
According to the family of the deceased, he was a contractor and abducted by some suspected security personnel from the house of his sister at Lamlai around 2 am.
He was at his sister home for looking after oil tnaker belonging to his sister.
The dead body is still lying at RIMS morgue.
Another suspected underground was also gunned down by combined force of Imphal west police commandos and 28 Assam Rifles at Langthabal Khoupum village, five kilometer on the south of Singjamei police station at about 12.30 pm.
A .38 revolver loaded with two live rounds recovered from the slain who police suspected to be PREPAK.
The slain youth seems to be age around 30 year and he had a tattoo mark written as "Fana" on his left hand.
Police deposited the dead body at RIMS morgue for identification.
More than 284 people have lost their life in militancy related fatalities in the restive Manipur in the last seven month from January.
Out of them 229 were claimed to be militant while six were security personnel.
The rest 49 were civilians including 19 non-local migrant labourers.
